Create certificate

For authentication and encryption of the data transfer we use IPSec. Therfor a certificate is required, which can be created and downloaded on the certificate management page. To be able to create a certificate you must have a user account at the Faculty of Engineering (pool-login).

 

  1. Certificate management
    Go to the page certificate management in your web browser (this also works from the WLAN):

  2. Login


    For registration you can use the same login and password as for your usual account at the Faculty of Engineering. You have at most three login attempts. If these fail then the webinterface for your account will be locked for fifteen minutes.

    If the login doesn't work immediately even though you have used the correct login data, then you must change your password. This modification activates your account for the webinterface. Detailled information on how you can change your password can be found on the support site of the Faculty of Engineering.

  3. Create certificate
    If you don't have a valid certificate yet, then, after login, you will get to the application form for a certificate.


    In this dialogue you can choose the favored duration of the certificate an a password for the security of the certificate. Possible validity periods are either term, month or week. One month is generally handled as 31 days, one week as seven days. A certificate for a whole term is always valid until the upcoming 15th of April or October. Certificates for the next term can be created from the 1st of April or October.

    For your own interest you shouldn't choose the certificate password to simple. It can consist of 4 to 8 signs. The password will be needed later on by the IPSec software to be able to use the certificate. At the same time the password protects the certificate against the abuse of a third person.The password can be chosen arbitrarly, but it shouldn'tbe the same as your password at the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

    As soon as you confirm your input data, a certificate will be created and offered for download. It is also possible to download the certificate again later on in the now activated management dialogue.

    Possibly you will get an error message, which tells you that your account at the Faculty of Applied Sciences isn't valid long enough for the chosen duration period. In this case you can extend the validity of your account by changing your password.

  4. Certificate management
    If you posess a valid certificate you will be forwarded to the management dialogue. This dialogue allows you to take a look at the validity period of the certificate, to download the certificate a second time or to recall the certificate before expiry.

    To avoid having to create a new certificate in case of loss of the certificate, e.g. if you have accidently deleted it or a hardwaredefect, here it is possible to download your certificate a second time.

    If you don't need your certificate any longer or you have the suspicion that your certificate could have been compromised, you can delete it here and subsequently apply for a new certificate.
