Mobile Pools

The MobilePools project (MoPo) is a service for all students and employees of the Faculty of Engineering.

The project was developed by the Department of Computer Science in 2001 in order to provide all students and employees with a safe and mobile access to the university network and internet via WLAN. Because of the good experience during the pilot phase the computer center decided to provide an area-wide wireless network infrastructure for the complete University of Freiburg.

For the protection of the WLAN against tapping and as access control within the network, the MoPo project relies on the safe VPN-technique IPSec. The authentication of users is carried out with help of x509 user certificates.

This website explains howto setup a Virtual Privat Network (VPN) on different platforms.

MoPo access is possible throughout the whole university and from external via internet.

Please note: Standard access to the Uni-Network/Internet WLAN, is granted by the computer center. The relevant documentation is available under WLAN/VPN on computer center webpage of the University of Freiburg. The Mobile Pool project continues to develop with the addition of a VPN for security and reliability.
